Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
I have written about this before, and unfortunately my resolve wavers and I get drawn into the time vortex of arguing with people who are not worth engaging with. Some inner voice compels me to argue with these people, and I cannot help myself. I really do know better; I promise. I know that there is no changing the hearts or minds of the people I tend to argue with. They are steadfastly rooted in their ways. And yet I still engage…
Aside from my lack of self-control, another issue that I am having is that the filtering function on Facebook is somehow more useless than those buttons they have at city crosswalks. I have tried countless times to go through the process of telling Facebook that I don’t want to see certain things, and it just passive-aggressively sends twice as much of the offending content my way. It’s difficult to believe that it’s not by design.
I sometimes wonder if Facebook is an ongoing interactive experiment designed to prove out the existence of the Dunning-Kruger effect in real-time. Many of these people are willing to die on the dumbest hills. You can point them to irrefutable evidence that they’re wrong, and they just double down on stupid. This phenomenon is simultaneously fascinating and depressing. It’s very disheartening to believe that there are so many people like this wandering around in the World.
