I have been thinking about building a new PC for quite a while. The one that I am currently using is quite old and there is no path to upgrading the existing hardware. With that in mind, I have been pricing new hardware, but as is typical for me I will talk myself in and out of purchasing anything several times before I actually do it. No matter how much money I make, purchases of over one hundred dollars will always induce paralysis by analysis. Old habits…
In the meantime it has been interesting to watch the prices fluctuate day to day, and sometimes even hour to hour on the various components that I have queued up on pcpartpicker.com. While the previous generation hardware moves up/down just a couple of dollars here and there, the current generation hardware makes volatile leaps back/forth of one hundred dollars or more. I imagine the prices are not going to go below the lowest that I have seen in the past few weeks, and most likely they’re going to continue to go up, while some of the parts may even become difficult to find after January.
The nerd in me wants to graph all of this out, and maybe I will if I can make the time to do it. If I do end up making the purchases and assembling a new PC, I will definitely post about that here.
